Old City & Western Wall
The Old City is best explored on foot, and there are many ways to experience it. You can take a walking tour through the Jewish Quarter’s synagogues and archaeological sites, wander into the Christian Quarter’s narrow alleys and markets, or climb to the rooftops for panoramic views of the quarters below. At the Western Wall, visitors can place a note in the stones or pause for reflection at Judaism’s holiest site of prayer. For something deeper, guided tours beneath the Wall reveal ancient tunnels, while rooftop tours showcase the Old City from above. Plan at least half a day to explore.

Machane Yehuda Market
Jerusalem’s central market is always alive with flavors and color, but on Fridays it bursts with Shabbat energy. Stalls overflow with challahs, babkas, candies, and rugelach alongside fresh produce and spices. During the week, it’s a place to taste your way through street food, while at night it transforms into a buzzing hub of bars and music. Plan for 1-2 hours.
Tip: Visit on a Friday morning for the full Shabbat shopping experience just be prepared for crowds.
Israel Museum & Dead Sea Scrolls
This world-class museum houses the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed, along with extensive archaeology and Judaica collections. Don’t miss the outdoor sculpture garden and model of ancient Jerusalem. Families with older kids will find it engaging, too. Allow 2–3 hours.
Tip: The Dead Sea Scrolls are the highlight, start there before moving through the rest of the museum.
Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial
Israel’s official Holocaust memorial is both moving and educational. The museum exhibits, the Hall of Names, and outdoor memorial sites are designed to honor and teach. Best suited for adults and older teens, you’ll want at least 2–3 hours here.

Mount of Olives Viewpoint
For one of the most iconic views of Jerusalem, head to the Mount of Olives. From this overlook, you’ll see the Old City walls, the Dome of the Rock, and the hills stretching beyond. It’s also home to the ancient Jewish cemetery that has been in use for over 3,000 years. Allow an hour.

Tower of David Museum & Light Show
Located at Jaffa Gate, the Tower of David Citadel tells Jerusalem’s story with multimedia exhibits inside ancient stone walls. In the evening, the Light Show projects vivid images onto the fortress, bringing the city’s history to life. Expect 2–3 hours for both.

City of David Archaeological Park
Explore where ancient Jerusalem began. Walk through underground tunnels, see excavations of biblical-era remains, and even trek through Hezekiah’s water tunnel. This is an active, adventurous site suited for families with older kids. Plan 2–3 hours.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and expect to get a little wet if you walk the water tunnel.
Mamilla
Just outside Jaffa Gate, Mamilla Mall is an outdoor promenade that blends shopping with history. International brands, local boutiques, and plenty of cafés line the walkway, all set against the backdrop of the Old City walls. It’s a lively spot to relax, shop, or enjoy an outdoor meal.
